Kampala — With the weather certain to remain a constant in the run up to the Uganda Tennis Open, Uganda Lawn Tennis Association (ULTA) have stepped preparation for the most prestigious event on the local calendar.

Cedric Babu, the chairman of ULTA, told Daily Monitor work on six courts starts today so that they can be ready for play within a week’s time. The Open is set to run from March 15 to 22.

“Watering of the courts starts today and we shall begin levelling on Thursday and get them marked over the weekend if the weather remains good to us,” Babu explained. “We are going to unveil a new sponsor tomorrow (today) and that should make managing the tournament easier because we shall have the necessary logistics in our possession,” he Babu.

Four-time Uspa tennis Player of the Year Duncan Mugabe is the defending champion but faces a stern test from Rwanda’s Jean Claude Gasigwa.
