About 13 US National Football League players will be among the many humanitarians who will be handing out hearing devices to the deaf on Sunday.
Close to 2330 Ugandans will benefit from hearing aids worth shs10.9bn in Kampala and Gulu from Sunday to March 19 in a partnership between the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and Hope Medical Clinics.
A release from the office of the Commissioner General dated March 4 states that the one-week mission dubbed “So Uganda may hear” will be launched on this Sunday at the URA headquarters, Nakawa where 1,664 beneficiaries will have their hearing aids fitted from.
Thereafter the mission will be taken to Gulu to fit the remaining 666 beneficiaries with hearing aids. Each hearing aid is said to cost $2000 (sh4.7m).
Hope Medical Clinics, Uganda, is a non- governmental organization, contacted Starkey Hearing Foundation, USA, to provide customized hearing aids to Ugandans in need and URA ladies club to help identify the beneficiaries.
Starkey Hearing Foundation promotes hearing health awareness through research and education. They will be coming with their technical team that will be fitting the hearing aids and some members of the US National Football League, who are one of Starkey’s sponsors.
