The campaign organisation of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Dr. Ade Dosunmu, on Wednesday described as nonsense the comment by the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, that Governor Babatunde Fashola’s performance in Lagos had made the state a no-go-area for the PDP.

Aliyu had at the 47th annual International Conference of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society in Minna, praised Fashola and the Action Congress of Nigeria for performing excellently in Lagos State, saying the PDP should see the state as a no-go area.

But in a swift reaction on Wednesday, Dosunmu’s Campaign Coordinator in Lagos State, Mr. Ladipo Johnson, said Babangida’s comments were misplaced and could not have represented the true situation in the state.

He said that by such “unguarded statements,” the governor was clearly getting involved in anti-party activities and his estimation of the relative strength of both the PDP and the ACN in the state, was a fraudulent scheming that had political undertone.

He noted that Babangida had been ignorant of the dynamics shaping politics in Lagos State and as such, the leadership of the PDP in Lagos was not surprised about such remarks against the state chapter.

“We are not surprised that such ridiculous statement could be attributed to Babangida; we are least surprised because he has not been a reliable ally. It’s understandable that it is coming from him. Such arrant nonsense is essentially a disguised political shot at President Goodluck Jonathan but if he thinks by talking against the Lagos PDP, he will deny the President the over six million votes in the state, he is joking.”
