Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has given a two-week ultimatum to the management of Edo Cement factory, Okpella to bounce back to production.
Oshiomhole, who threatened to revoke the sale of the company, which was privatised by past administrations, said his administration would find the resources to recapitalise it and put it back to production.
He stated this yesterday when the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji (Dr.) A.Y.E Dirisu, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Benin.
According to him, “The Edo Cement Factory had become an embarrassment. ‘’I will direct the Attorney-General of the state to look at the terms of the contract. If they cannot operate it or give convincing explanation as to when they will start production, we will revoke the sale of the cement factory and Edo State will take it over,” he noted.
“We have had enough of explanations. It is irresponsible for people who do not have the know-how to take over businesses and shut them down. That is a part of the things that are compounding unemployment problem in Nigeria.”
Oshiomhole said his administration would make a difference in the social economic life of the people during his reign. He observed that traditional rulers should take steps to canvass for good governance in the state.
“We need vigilante to complement the efforts of the police. We will support them with vehicles and they will be on monthly stipends to fuel and maintain the vehicles,” he said, adding that road construction will also be embarked upon in the next budget.
On his part, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella Kingdom, Alhaji A.Y.E Dirisu commended the courage of the governor, which he said had enabled him to continue to govern the state effectively in spite of the loss of his wife.
