The Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, has described as discomforting a statement credited to Senator Muhammed Abba-Aji concerning plans to scuttle the bid of the Igbo for the nation’s presidency in 2015.
In a statement made available to The Nation yesterday, the governor said the statement was particularly discomforting because it came at a time President Goodluck Jonathan was counting on the overall support of the Igbo in his bid to win the presidential election scheduled for April.
He said: ‘’It is very provocative for anybody to say that the Igbo, who have not tasted the position of a democratically elected President, will not be given a chance in 2015. More so, it does not augur well for the Presidency.
‘’It is important to note that nobody should arrogate to himself the power to allocate the Presidency, because Nigeria is for all of us and power belongs to God.
‘’It is too early for anybody to start discrediting the chance of the Igbo to produce the next President in 2015. All hands should rather be on deck to assist Jonathan win his presidential bid. The Igbo have suffered varying degrees of religious and political scapegoatism, which definitely smacks of conspiracy at very high levels against the Igbo.
‘’Our people are being slaughtered in Jos and Borno and elsewhere in the North at the slightest opportunity with impunity and without fear of reprisal attacks by the Igbo.
‘’This recent comment by somebody who is supposedly working with the President is unbecoming, and it goes to show that there are people in the Presidency who don’t wish the President and the country well.’’
