Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has admitted his belief that the Red Devils’ rivalry with Liverpool is the biggest in English football as the two clubs prepare to do battle in Sunday’s north-west derby.

Giggs would break Sir Bobby Charlton’s league appearance record if he features at Anfield and the Welshman admits meetings with the Merseyside club are always special.

“The rivalry is massive with Liverpool. It’s probably the biggest rivalry, well it is, in English football,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Simply because we are the two most successful teams and the passion of the two clubs, the history of the two clubs.

“It’s always a special game. I have always said that it’s the one place where you get the most satisfaction when you get a result because you have got to play against the team, against the history, against the fans.

“It’s just a special moment when you get a result at Anfield.”

Giggs also alluded to the Kenny Dalglish factor and insisted the presence of the Anfield legend would add to the spice of the occasion.

“He’s a Liverpool legend, both as a player and a manger, and he’s come back.

“That just adds spice to the game.”
