Police Beef Up Security In Buipe After Sporadic Gunshots

    The Northern Regional Police Command has dispatched about 30 more policemen to Buipe to maintain law and order.

    The reinforcement followed a heavy gun battle between the two feuding chieftaincy royal gates in the Buipe Traditional area of Gonjaland on Friday,March 4.

    The two have been fighting over the supremacy of the Buipe stool.

    Unconfirmed reports have it that two more casualties have been recorded and that has brought the total number to five.

    Whereas the Lebu gate recorded three casualties made up of Amidu Ibrahim, Kwame mensah and Salifu Mustapha, the Jinapor gate mentioned Atta Biawuribe and Shamsudeen Mohammed.

    According to Dr. Abdulai Jinapor, Atta Biawuribe was shot in the leg while Shamsudeen was shot in the left hand.

    He said both of them were rushed to the Buipe clinic where the pellets have been removed.

    Calm has returned to the area and despite the skirmishes, the Jinapor royal gate went ahead with the Damba festival celebration which will be climaxed on Saturday March 5, 2011.
