Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has signed a new four-year-deal, which will see him remain at Old Trafford until the end of the 2014-15 season.

The 27-year-old Scotland captain has become a prominent figure at United in recent seasons, having made 288 appearances and scoring 21 goals since his first team debut in March 2003.

Fletcher has made 32 appearances so far this season for the current Premier League leaders, and Goal.com UK exclusively revealed last week that he is set to be named vice-captain next season.

Speaking at a press conference, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Darren has been at the club since he was 15 years old. I am extremely proud that he came through the ranks of our youth academy. I am delighted Darren has signed a new contract, he has developed into a top-class midfielder.”

During his time at United, where Fletcher joined as a youth player, he has won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two League Cups.

Fletcher said: “I take great pride in playing for Manchester United, I have won many trophies in my years playing here and I am looking forward to winning many more in the seasons to come. I would like to thank everyone at the club.”
