Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been sent to Sweden to see a specialist over his ongoing knee injury.

The Scotland international had to settle for a place on the bench due to the problem for Saturday’s loss to Everton, with Simon Mignolet taking his place.

Manager Steve Bruce said: “Craig Gordon is not 100 per cent fit, I have to report that. He’s going to see a specialist on Monday.

“He came back from Scotland with a knee injury and it has been niggling away at him. He’s away to see a specialist in Sweden on Monday and we will see how he is.”

Danny Welbeck and Fraizer Campbell, who have also been struggling with injuries, seem to be nearing a recovery, with Welbeck expected to be in the squad to face Arsenal on Saturday.

“Danny Welbeck is training with Fraizer Campbell. Welbeck, if he comes through the next two days, could be involved on Saturday,” Bruce added.

“We have got a game against West Ham on Tuesday here and I expect Fraizer and Danny both to be playing in that.”
