Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has admitted that he is willing to play from the bench if that is what manager Sir Alex Ferguson intends to do against Chelsea.
The Mexico international, who bagged a brace against Wigan Athletic at the weekend, had a chance of making a start against the Blues if fellow forward Wayne Rooney had been sanctioned for an elbow on James McCarthy during the match at the DW Stadium.
However, no action was taken against and he remains available for the game against Carlo Ancelotti’s charges, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
And now Hernandez is willing to play his part from the bench for the greater good of the team.
He told The Sun: “I have no problems being on the bench. I understand that football is a team sport, not like golf or tennis.
“So you have to help your team when you play from the beginning but also when you come on from the bench.
“We are like pieces of a jigsaw and the boss decides how to use us.
“If Ferguson picks me for the starting line-up, that would be great but if not, that’s fine too.”
