An extract from a note published on the club’s official website Ilpalermocalcio.it reads: “U.S Citta di Palermo communicates to have relieved coach Delio Rossi from his duties as first team coach. The club would like to thank him for his work.”
The writing was on the wall for Rossi after Maurizio Zamparini claimed he had a “one per cent chance of staying” after the Rosanero were thrashed 7-0 at home by Udinese on Sunday.
Following earlier claims from Zamparini, who had said his eye was trained on Serse Cosmi, the club also announced the former Brescia and Livorno coach would be taking over from Rossi.
Another statement on Palermo’s site reads: “U.S Citta di Palermo communicates to have appointed Serse Cosmi as first team coach. He will take the training session on Tuesday and will be presented to the press at 18:30.”
Details over his contract duration and wages have not been disclosed. The club also stated the squad is in ritiro in Rome ahead of Sunday’s game against Lazio.
