Everton boss David Moyes would like the focus to be on their football rather than their finances as has become the norm in recent months.

Everton’s financial issues have been well-publicised in recent months, as has been their inability to strengthen their squad when the team clearly needs it.

The Toffees have struggled this season in the Premier League but managed a famous FA Cup victory over Chelsea earlier this month, and Moyes would like the attention to move back to their football team rather than the finances.

“It is about changing the perception of the club from the way it is getting perceived at the moment,” he told reporters.

“Because the club’s accounts came out, there was a lot of bad news.

“If we win games, move up the league, hopefully we can get people talking about the football more than anything else to do with the club,” he added.

“It was always going to be something which if the team does well it can cover a lot of things at the football club.

“At this present time I don’t think the team has done well enough this year.”

Moyes is hoping to use the result against Chelsea to catapult the Toffees into a top half position after a disappointing beginning to the season.

“Tomorrow is a night we need the fans right behind the team and supporting us the way they did at Chelsea,” he added.

“That was probably the best we’ve been able to give them this season, but you always hope the best is still to come.

“Let’s hope it is in this game and future games as well.”
