NIGER State Governor Babangida Aliyu may have reconciled with his predecessor, Abdulkadir Kure.
The duo were seen together publicly for the first time since 2007 at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Niger South Senatorial campaign at the weekend.
The rally is to kick-start the campaign of Senator Zaynab Kure, wife of the former governor at Bida.
Aliyu and Kure jointly cut the 55th birthday cake of the former governor in company of their wives.
When Aliyu took over in 2007, he said his predecessor left an empty treasury.
He set up a Commission of Inquiry to probe contracts awarded by Kure from 1999 to 2007.
A Government White Paper banned Kure and some of his principal officers from holding political appointments in the state for 10 years.
The former governor is challenging this at a Minna High Court.
Aliyu told PDP members and supporters last month during his adoption rally for a second term bid in Minna that the rift between them was settled.
He said: “I want to tell the rumour mongers in the state that there is no rift between Engineer Kure and I.
‘’He is my Muslim brother and as Muslims, we cannot continue to fight ourselves forever. The rift between us is over.”
Aliyu arrived the venue of the rally at the Bida Township Stadium.
The former governor came with some of his friends and sat beside the governor.
Senator Kure debunked fears that the opposition is making inroads into the zone.
She said: “PDP is the party to beat in this zone. Let nobody put fear in you, we are the party to beat.”
Presenting Senator Kure as the party’s candidate for the Senate, Aliyu urged the people to rally round all PDP candidates in the state.
