He laments that it has taken a dramatic turn with politicians now setting the agenda when it is supposed to be the media doing just that.
Speaking on e-TV’s Breakfast TV Newspaper Review, Mr. Addo said the media has lost grounds as the watch dog of the society and as agenda setters, and is only interested in big savings instead of using their platform to push the agenda and needs of the people and society for government to act on.
“Politicians have unfortunately managed to get the media to go with their kind of propaganda; the politicians have taken the agenda setting from the media and are now setting the agenda. If you look at it critically, you will realize that the media itself is losing its grounds as the watch dog of society and as agenda setters…Sadly, no media house is trying to break that terrain but rather they are feeding on it simply because that is what will make big savings,” he added.
He believes it is about time the media ignores some of the unnecessary politicking and force back to the discussion table, policies that can alleviate the plight of the citizenry.
“What can we do to these politicians when they put out things which should not be discussed? We have to ignore them and get them to think about policies. For some weeks now, nobody talk about serious policy, it is either “all die be die”, “di wo fie asem”, “so many ways of killing a cat” or “Ghana will not die”. This is worrying and it is time we find a way and not let the politician tell us what to do,” he noted.
