After three years in charge of Toronto FC’s Senior Academy Team, Jason Bent earned a promotion to assistant coach with the club.

The 33-year-old former Canadian international will join Aron Winter’s coaching team after the departure of Nick Dasovic, according to Canadian Soccer News.

“Jason has played a big role in establishing our Academy and has proved he is ready to take the step up,” said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter in a statement. “Developing our young players is a key part of our philosophy at this club, and having Jason working with the first team squad will help us with that. It is also the next step in his development as a coach and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him.”

Currently, six members of the Toronto Academy are in the Canadian U17 squad participating in the CONCACAF U17 Championship. Furthermore, two players coached by the former Plymouth Argyle and Colorado Rapids midfielder earned professional contracts with TFC as Home Grown Players.
