Ex President Kufuor was at the Castle on Tuesday February 22, at the invitation of the President, and the two discussed issues of mutual, national and international interest.
The former President described the meeting with President Mills as “cordial and fruitful.”
Details of the closed-door meeting are unclear, but Citi News sources at the Castle indicate that the two statesmen discussed issues concerning former President Kufuor’s ex-gratia, as well as issues relating to the seeming political polarization in the country and what roles the two could play in ensuring peace and tranquillity.
Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News, on Tuesday February 22, the General Secretary of the Christian Council, Reverend Fred Deegbe said it is a very positive development for President Mills to recognise the role President Kufuor could play in the running of the country and inviting him to share his views with him.
According to him, it’s a signal that could unify the two main political parties in the country especially in the wake of rising political tensions.
“Well I think it is a good move because these are leaders; we cannot just ignore their experience. So for a sitting President to invite the former President and talk of matters of national and international interest, it can only augur well for this nation…because it can only help this country”.
“Let us celebrate the small victories that we get even if this is one of them and encourage our leaders that we need more of this and if we get more of this it will help our nation so that we can go on”.
