Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has declared that it is no longer worth helping politicians in Ghana.
According to Mr. Agyapong, once politicians assume power, they no longer trust the judgment of business owners who help finance their campaigns.
The businessman-and-politician stated on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Friday that political office holders tend to believe what they hear from their new friends and downplay what their business friends had done for them, forgetting that they contributed to bringing them into power.
The Assin North MP said former President John Kufuor made it a priority to create a conducive environment for businesses to rise during his tenure but current economic indicators are making it difficult for local businesses to rise.
He mentioned for instance the high interest rates charged on loans by the banks as well as the weakening value of the Ghana Cedi compared to that of its major trading partners.
Member of Parliament for Evalue-Gwira has suggested that the government should identify potential business owners and give them the necessary help to become entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile MP for Adenta, Kwadwo Adu Asare said President Mills has spent just a little over two years nurturing business owners in the country.
Mr. Adu Asare further said the government has created other opportunities for local businesses to enable them to grow.
