In what can be described as disrespect to Journalists who attended the Editor’s forum on Friday with President Mills, the General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention, Bernard Mornah has told Citi FM that in his estimation those present were only there to enjoy launch rather than ask necessary and intelligent questions concerning the wellbeing of Ghanaians.
Bernard Mornah expressed his disappointment at the Journalists adding that they did not live up to the task because they were dumbfounded and dazed by the presence and responses of the President.
“You (journalists) have done us a disservice, indeed you wasted our state lunch, you went there because you were interested in eating lunch. Am very serious because there were many questions and you people (Journalists) were just sitting down, you were itchy that lunch should come so that you go and eat…you failed the nation”.
President John Atta Mills on Friday, January 7 interacted with journalists from various media houses where various questions ranging from his position on the Ivorian crisis, his recent Ministerial reshuffle; fuel hikes and his personal health were asked.
However, giving his thoughts on the performance of the President at the Editor’s Forum, on Citi FM’s Saturday Political talk show, the ‘Big Issue’, Bernard Mornah said President Mills did absolutely well in his answers but the journalists were the ones who failed.
He said his greatest disappointment was the failure of the journalists whom he said missed a glorious opportunity to find out from the President his opinions about some relevant national issues.
Bernard Mornah charged Journalists to exhibit boldness and sharpness of thought the next time they have such an opportunity.
According to him all the journalists are interested in doing is to sit in the comfort of their studios and generate unneccassry controversies on sometimes ill informed facts.
“I am blaming the journalists for not raising themselves to the occasion. The President did his best but what about you the Journalists who allowed yourselves to be dazed by what the President said”.
“You come and sit in the studio and now that the President is not there, you then hear them making all manner of comments. What kind of journalists do we have…please wake up to the challenge so that we know that we have journalists that can be bold enough”.
Bernard Mornah failed to retract his comments after Abu Jinapor, a member of the opposition NPP and an aide to Nana Addo called on him to retract since in his opinion it’s an unfair description of Fridays happenings at the castle.
