Sissala West MP expresses disappointment in BECE results

    Mr. Haruna Bayirga, the Member of Parliamen) for the Sissala West, has expressed concern about poor results recorded at 2010 Basic Education Certificate Examination in the district and said action must be taken to reverse it.
    The MP, who looked very disappointed, called on stakeholders of education in the district to fashion out the causes of the abysmal performance and adopt new strategies to correct it.
    Mr. Bayirga was speaking during the celebration of the “Kukur Baghr” Festival of the Chiefs and people of the Fielmua Traditional Area in the Sissala West District.
    He said for a child to climb the academic ladder largely dependent on the type of foundation the child had acquired at the basic school level.
    Mr. Bayirga appealed to educationists, parents, teachers and politicians to invest their resources in education to bring about quality education to enhance a better future for the children.
    On the development of the district, the MP said he lobbied for 25 communities to be connected to the national grid and urged his colleague politicians in the district and at the Regional level to cooperate during the implementation of the project.
    Mr. Bayirga said he had also lobbied for an ambulance for the Gwollu Hospital and was in the process of acquiring one for the Fielmua Hospital to facilitate easy transportation of referral cases.
    He said he donated GH¢2,000 for the Fielmua Hospital and another GH¢1,000 for them to buy books to stock the Fielmua Library.
    Mr. Bayirga has also donated hospital equipment to all the health centers in the district and is also constructing kindergartens in some communities.
    Mr. Bayirga said he had also used his share of the common fund to sponsor several students from the district to complete their tertiary education.
