In a city battling water shortages, sewage spills, and litter-strewn streets, the Democratic Alliance has placed its hopes in Haniff Hoosen — newly announced as the party’s mayoral candidate for eThekwini.
A seasoned public servant, Hoosen says he accepts the nomination with humility and a deep sense of duty.
Accepting the nomination, Hoosen said, “I have served the people of this city, this province, and South Africa as a public representative for many years. I’ve been a Shadow Minister in Parliament, a constituency head to thousands across eThekwini, and I’ve dedicated my life to serving you. It’s a calling that gives purpose to my life and energy to my body every day.”
Deputy Editor Lee Rondganger sat down with Hoosen to discuss his vision for Durban — and how he plans to turn the tide in one of South Africa’s most troubled metros.
