Mzansi’s beloved media personality Bonang Matheba recently celebrated her birthday with a small and intimate dinner surrounded by close family and friends. Some of the special guests included Sefiso Hlongwane, Thulane “Toolz” Hadebe, Jerry Deeuw, Karen Mthethwa, and Bonang’s cousin, Tebogo ‘Pinky Girl’ Mekgwe.

Pinky Girl posted happy moments from the birthday dinner on her Instagram Stories, giving fans a glimpse of the warm celebration. What made this dinner extra special for many fans was seeing Bonang and Pinky together again—after not being seen together for a while. The two were once known for their close bond on the reality show Being Bonang, but they drifted apart in 2023.

In April 2025, Pinky Girl opened up about what really happened between her and Bonang during a sit-down interview with Troy Malenge on Reason TV. She said their fallout was not dramatic and was mostly due to life changes and lack of communication.

“There’s nothing that happened. I went through a lot of emotions in 2023,” she said. “As people, we grow and take on different responsibilities… whether it’s family, relationships, or friendships. You don’t have to judge or force things.”

In the past, Bonang reportedly said Pinky was removed from her team because she wasn’t vaccinated. But Pinky says it wasn’t just about that. She explained that the real issue was about growing apart and not talking enough.

“Families have differences,” she said. “I was brought up in my own family, and my cousin was brought up in hers. Yes, we’re cousins—even like sisters—but our backgrounds are different.”

Pinky also shared loving memories of their childhood, explaining how their bond grew from visiting each other during school holidays. “Bonang and I met through visiting during school holidays, spending time together while growing up, and visiting my grandmother in Rustenburg… I’d go to her dad’s in Mafikeng during the holidays.”

But as they grew older, life changed. “Now we’ve grown up—she does her own thing, and I do mine,” she said. “I have my own parents, and she has hers. So cousins are cousins—it’s not like we do everything together.”

She also spoke about the pain she went through in 2023, saying she lost her uncle, grandmother, and father, which made the year very emotional for her.

Speaking about the visa issue that Bonang mentioned on X (formerly Twitter), Pinky said: “The problem with the visa was that there was no communication earlier… There was no communication that we will need a visa, so prepare a visa in the next 1–2 weeks.”

She said that better planning and clear communication could have avoided the problem and also pointed out that the trip wasn’t sponsored, which added to the confusion.
