Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti mobile has GA103 chip photographed and detailed –

In its review of the recently announced Razer Blade 17 2022, the channel Geekerwan brought several details about the GA103 GPU, a new chip that equips the RTX 3080 Ti mobile, announced during CES 2022. In addition to detailed photos of the component, the video brings more details of the specifications, which suggest that we will see the solution debut on desktop boards in the future.

RTX 3080 Ti has detailed GA103 chip

The review, in Chinese, has detailed information about the GA103, more specifically identified as GA103S/GA103M, with code GN20-E8-A1. The novelty brings a reduced version that equips the RTX 3080 Ti for notebooks, but according to estimates of Geekerwan, has at its maximum configuration 7,680 CUDA cores, 240 Tensor Cores for AI processing and 60 RT Cores for Ray Tracing.

The chip would also have 10 32-bit memory channels, for a total 320-bit interface, and has an area of 496 mm², a size about 26.5% larger than the GA104 that equips the rest of the RTX 3000 mobile family. , delivering 25% more cores. Interestingly, this makes the component more robust than the RTX 3070 for desktops, at least on paper, and disregarding the power and cooling differences.

For the notebook RTX 3080 Ti, Nvidia tuned the chip to deliver 7,424 CUDA cores, 232 Tensor Cores, 58 RT Cores, clocks up to 1,590 MHz, 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM at 16 Gbps, 256-bit interface, bandwidth bandwidth of 512 GB/s, consumption from 80 W to 150 W (175 W with Dynamic Boost 2.0) and computing power of up to 23.6 TFLOPs.

It is worth noting, however, that Nvidia has not yet released the full official diagram of the GA103, and it is possible that there are differences in the estimates made by the channel for the full specifications of the GPU. That said, it shouldn’t be long before more information is revealed, if rumors of the solution’s arrival on desktops are confirmed.

New GPU could power future desktop models

So far, the GA103 exclusively equips the RTX 3080 Ti mobile, but several rumors have already suggested that the chip should be brought to desktops soon. The latest information indicates that a new variant of the component is to be used on a revised version of the RTX 3060 Ti, currently equipped with one of the GA104 variations.

It is believed that the new RTX 3060 Ti would feature an even smaller version, with 4,864 cores, which would be equivalent to 60% of the maximum configuration. The advantage of using the GA103, in this case, is to increase production, since there is only one model equipped with the solution, and to take better advantage of production yield, since defective units could be sent to the board.

Still, considering the chip’s capacity, it’s likely that we’ll see it being used in another, more powerful board. A possible candidate is the 16 GB RTX 3070 Ti, leaked several times and not yet announced by the green team. The card could follow in the footsteps of the RTX 3080 12 GB and deliver more robust configurations, such as the full GA103 and higher clocks, to differentiate itself from the RTX 3070 Ti available on the market.
