Apple introduced the impressively performing M1 Pro and M1 Max chips for the new MacBook Pro. But the company still has more surprising plans for future Macs that debut in the coming months, including monstrous versions of the M1 Max.
According to information obtained by insider DylanDKT, the next iMac Pro could gain an additional configuration superior to the M1 Max.
A processor with a 12-core CPU is mentioned and is linked to a code that references the new iMac, which can be called the iMac Pro.

The current M1 Max has a 10-core CPU, 8 for performance and 2 for energy consumption. With the new version we would have 10 performance cores and 2 consumption cores.
There are solid rumors about the possibility that Apple will introduce two versions of the M1 Max: a “Duo” model combining two processors for up to 20 CPU cores and up to 64 GPU cores, and a “Quadra” model with four chips combined, resulting in 40 CPU cores and 128 GPU cores.
The 12-core CPU version of the M1 Max would be intended for the “Pro” models, but information about the possibility of combination in Duo and Quadra versions is still unknown.
Dylan himself revealed the possibility that the Mac Pro will be presented with a processor based on the M1 Max instead of the M2, which will be aimed at entry-level and cheaper Macs of the new generation.
We still don’t know if Apple should keep the M1 Max name with some categorical change to indicate the performance jump or advance the nomenclature to the next generation, being called, therefore, the M2 Max. It is also possible that the brand will just keep the same name, something already done on the Apple A15 Bionic chipset that has different configurations for the iPhone 13 line and even for the iPad Mini 6.
