Volkswagen will transform the Gol into an SUV smaller than the Nivus –

Volkswagen is preparing a revolution for its most famous product: the VW Gol. Aware that the compact hatch needs major changes to become more attractive again, the German automaker had the idea of following market trends and transforming it into an SUV, in a tactic similar to what Citroën will use with the C3. .

According to information from the Auto+ portal, Volkswagen, which has already promised billion-dollar investments in its Taubaté factory — the plant where the Gol is assembled — wants all its vehicles to be built on the MQB platform, which is more technological and completely modular. Proof of this is that Nivus, T-Cross, Taos, Polo and Virtus are made in it.

With the move to this vehicular structure, which would be simplified to lower costs, the Gol could be bigger, more equipped and with a higher level of safety, justifying, for example, the prices charged by Volkswagen in the current line of the car.

Also, its design, which has been pretty much the same for almost a decade, would also get a good revamp.

What will the Gol SUV look like?

According to Auto+, which made a prediction with the Overboost BR, the new Gol SUV would be more muscular, with a Polo size, but smaller than T-Cross and Nivus. As a result, its price is expected to be in the range of BRL 85,000 to BRL 100,000. The SUV look would be identical to what we saw in the Fiat Pulse, but with a hatch size.

Among the technological equipment, the Gol SUV could have the safety package seen in the Nivus, with adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, in addition to the VW Play multimedia center.

The engine, however, is still a mystery, but the ideal would be to equip it with the 105hp 1.0 TSI turbo, the same as the VW UP! housed in its vault — the 128hp variant, however, is not ruled out.

When will it be launched?

Also according to the publication, Volkswagen’s idea is to launch it on the market in 2023, as the year 2024.
