In addition to the new QLED and Micro LED TVs, Samsung was expected to unveil the first Quantum Dot OLED (QD-OLED) TV before the panel at CES 2022, which it didn’t. Unexpectedly, the first information about the product was disclosed on the technology fair’s website.

Apparently, Samsung’s QD-OLED TV was accidentally listed in the Innovation Awards area of CES 2022. Although the product page was taken down, CNET was able to get an image with the new television’s information.

QD-OLED with 144 Hz refresh rate

As described, the Samsung QD-OLED TV uses the Neo Quantum 2022 processor. The model features four HDMI 2.1 ports and support for Object Tracking Sound (OTS) technology, which optimizes the sounds sent to the speakers according to the elements in scene.

However, the highlight is the 144 Hz refresh rate. Combining this element with the deep black tones, the color and brightness of the quantum dots and the 4K resolution, the TV from the South Korean brand promises to be an excellent choice for games.

“With impeccable visuals, sound and speed, the QD-Display TV represents the next frontier in home entertainment,” concludes the presentation on the CES 2022 Innovation Awards page.

No additional product details, such as pricing, availability, and size options, were disclosed. Samsung told CNET that new information about the 2022 TV lineup will be released in the coming weeks and that the QD-OLED model does not yet have an official commercial title.

How does Quantum Dot OLED work?

Samsung Display’s ambitions around the Quantum Dot OLED began in 2019, when the brand announced an investment of US$11 billion in a new factory in South Korea. Finally, the technology will finally reach the market in 2022.

According to the manufacturer, the QD-OLED combines organic light-emitting diodes and quantum dots. Also, it works differently to generate the colors that will be displayed on the screen.

The result is more vivid color displays, truer black levels and improved viewing angles. Qualities that promise to surpass conventional OLED panels manufactured by competitor LG Display.
