For more than two years, the world of sports, and consequently also that of tennis, has been undergoing serious changes due to Covid-19, also known as Coronavirus, a disease that has generated a true pandemic and millions of deaths worldwide.

Compared to the past, the situation has improved a bit, especially in Europe, but recently the number of infections has increased again. In the last few hours, the Covid alert has returned to the world of tennis and especially affects the United States.

While waiting for a new confirmation from the US government, not very reassuring news has arrived from the Canadian government, decisive for the Montreal Masters 1000. The government has announced in the last few hours that tests with rapid swabs to check if a person is positive at the airport will return for those who arrive in its territory.

It should be noted that, at least initially, the swabs will be carried out randomly, drawing people at random from among the travelers. Those who test positive for Covid will risk being isolated for about 10 days, a situation that worries all tennis players greatly.

With a view to the Montreal tournament, the ATP has urged athletes to take a quick test before traveling to Canada to avoid unpleasant situations. Once again it has been confirmed that there will be no exceptions and that a vaccine is required to enter both Canada and the United States.

A situation that effectively excludes Novak Djokovic from the American tournament. The Wimbledon champion is not vaccinated and does not intend to be vaccinated, so his presence at the US Open and at all tournaments in America is almost impossible.

In a recent interview, Goran Ivanisevic had this to say about Novak Djokovic’s decision not to get vaccinated: “I respect Novak Djokovic’s decision and appreciate his courage.”

Gohmert on Nole Djokovic

To help Novak Djokovic take part in the 2022 US Open, American congress representative Louie Gohmert has written a letter to President Joe Biden.

The politician wrote in his letter that the entire situation was an “unnecessary mandate” and claimed that denying Djokovic the opportunity to play at Flushing Meadows this year would be one of the many human casualties brought on by the “calloused mandate”

“Should you fail to dispense with this unnecessary mandate this summer, then the strong possibility exists that tennis great, Novak Djokovic, will once again be denied the opportunity to compete, which he has merited through his hard work, ” Gohmert wrote.
