Nigeria returned from the just-concluded African Archery Championship held from November 7 to 12, 2023 in Nabeul, Tunisia, with songs of success.

At the championship, which featured 20 countries across all the bow categories, the team of Emmanuel Oyekele (Captain), Olatayo Olasehinde, Damilola Sholademi and Kachollom Eyenihen, won a bronze medal in the male team category, silver medal in the mixed team category (male and female) and a bronze medal in the individual female category.

The team, which got two silver medals in Pretoria, South Africa in 2022, recorded the country’s first and highest achievement in the sport since it started in Nigeria.

The team has been funding their participation in international competitions through individual contributions.

Nigeria Archery Federation’s (NAF) Secretary General, Tayo Olasehinde, said there are several international championships yearly, which the archers must attend to maintain their global rankings, adding that they can only achieve these competitions with the help of well-meaning individuals and corporate organisations.

He assured that given the necessary support, “this brilliant team will bring more international glory to Nigeria with their talents.”
