Andy Murray rewrote the history of records at the Australian Open 2023. In the first round, the Grand Slam champion beat Matteo Berrettini, a clash decided in the tiebreak, at 10, of the fifth set. The Scotsman came one step away from defeat, when the Berrettini had match points, but with a backhand on the net he shattered the latter’s dreams and gave the former number one the key towards this success.
The victory that not only gives Murray the second round, but that consigns him to the history of the Australian Open. For the two-time Wimbledon winner it is the 50th victory at the first Grand Slam tournament. With this success, after 4 hours 50 of the match, he enters the top 5 tennis players who have won the most in Melbourne.
The winner of three Grand Slam titles enters the top 5 with 50 victories won on Melbourne. There are now six successes that separate him from the number four in this ranking: Stefan Edberg with 56 victories in the first Grand Slam event of the season.

Further away, however, the three players with the most victories at the Australian Open, such as Djokovic, Federer. Rafael Nadal is at 77, but it is a number subject to further updates; as well as for the Serbian, who instead is second at an altitude of 82.
On the other hand, the former Swiss tennis player leads the standings, who has exceeded one hundred: 102 victories for him at Melbourne Park. A success that also wanted to reiterate Judy Murray, mother of the finalist of five editions of the Australian Open.

Due to the rain, Murray is not yet aware of the opponent who could face in the second round at the Australian Open: it could be either one of the home heroes, the holder of the doubles title, Thanasi Kokkinakis, or Fabio Fognini.
