It was one of the most anticipated matches and kept all expectations: defending champion Rafael Nadal faced the British Jack Draper, number 38 in the world rankings, in the Australian Open 2023 first round. The Majorcan champion has shown great tenacity and the two tennis players have a great battle.
Rafael Nadal won the first set making the most of a break point at 6-5, scoring a high level point and snatching applause from the crowd. Draper did not give up and meanwhile dominated the second set, won with a clear 6-2.

In the third set the young Briton accused of physical problems but in the meantime the match went on with Rafa leading by one break and closer. The Spanish champion then managed to qualify for the second round.
