The San Jose Earthquakes have signed former Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Michael Baldisimo through the 2023 MLS season.

Baldisimo’s deal includes an option for the 2024 campaign, with the player having been selected by the Quakes in Stage 2 of the 2022 MLS Re-Entry Draft.

“We were excited about the opportunity to select Michael during the Re-Entry Draft,” Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch said in a club press release. “He’s a 22-year-old with nearly 50 MLS appearances under his belt. We believe he can be a contributor in 2023.”

Baldisimo signed with the Whitecaps as a homegrown player back in July 2018, going on to score one goal in 50 senior appearances across all competitions. The midfielder helped VWFC win the Canadian Championship during his final season with the club.

The arrival of Baldisimo is the latest step in San Jose’s preparations for life under head coach Luchi Gonzalez, who is looking to guide the club back into the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2023.

The Quakes kick off the new season away to Atlanta United on February 25.
