Ona Batlle was the best player on the pitch when Manchester United thrashed Aston Villa at Old Trafford in front of a club record 30,000 fans.
The Spanish full-back not only helped her side keep a clean sheet, she an immense attacking threat. She made the first goal possible, assisted the fifth and scored a stunning fourth herself. Overall, she created five chances.
A week later against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Batlle faced up Lauren Hemp and severely limited the England winger in a 1-1 draw.

Things threatened to be very difficult for Manchester City when they lost their three starting midfielders during the summer, but Laura Coombs has stepped in to help fill the void and is thriving.
December was a continuation of an outstanding season so far, scoring crucial goals in both of her club’s games.
Coombs was consistently good anyway, but netted the third City goal in a 3-1 win over Brighton and the equaliser to avoid a first ever WSL defeat to rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.

Others tend to take the headlines, but Leah Galton is quietly one of Manchester United’s best, most consistent and most important players.
The left winger was an attacking menace in both WSL games she played in December, giving Aston Villa hell at Old Trafford, where she scored in the club’s impressive 5-0 win. A refereeing mistake cost her a second.
A similarly vibrant performance in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium a week later also produced another goal – the opener – to silence more than 40,000 City fans.

It was a busy December for Chelsea thanks to three Champions League fixtures, but they enjoyed a perfect month in the WSL and went into the winter break top of the table.
First up was an 8-0 demolition of Leicester, which saw Fran Kirby score her first goals since September. She really killed the game off with Chelsea’s third, doubled her tally later on and had assisted the early opener.
The Blues faced a tougher test against a resurgent Reading in their second league game of the month, but Kirby again impressed. Not only did she score in the 3-2 win, she created four chances too.

Vivianne Miedema won’t play again this season because of a devastating ACL injury she suffered in a Champions League game on 15 December. But before then, the Arsenal star had performed well in the WSL.
Goals in back-to-back Gunners wins left the team in a great position going into the winter break, only three points behind Chelsea with a game in hand.
Miedema got the only goal as Arsenal narrowly beat a resilient Everton, while she also scored the go-ahead decisive goal against Aston Villa.

Guro Reiten surprised even Emma Hayes with just how many goals she had a direct involvement in when Chelsea smashed Leicester 8-0.
The Norwegian winger ran the show in the first half of that game in particular. Having scored the early opening goal herself, she then laid on four assists for teammates all before the half-time whistle.
An assist machine, Reiten now has nearly twice as many as the next best in the WSL. Chelsea’s superior goal difference, which she has directly influenced, is also effectively an extra point in the title race.
