Boris Becker revealed there was one time in prison when he really feared for his safety as one inmate threatened to kill him. In April, Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in jail after hiding assets worth millions after declaring bankrupt.
Last week, Becker was released from the UK prison and deported to Germany. This Tuesday, Becker appeared in a German TV channel, where he opened up about his time in prison. When Becker first arrived in prison, he did his best to stay low-key and not to bring any kind of attention on himself.
“My main concern was having a double cell. Your cellmate can attack or threaten you,” Becker said on German TV Sat 1. But in October at Huntercombe prison, Becker found himself in what could have been a very unfortunate situation when a convicted murderer threatened to kill him.
“Just don’t look at another inmate the wrong way. Actually I once had what they call an ‘altercation’ with an inmate who wanted to kill me. He tried to come after me, he told me all the things he’d do to me,” Becker revealed.
Becker shouted for help
After being threatened, Becker shouted for help. Three inmates, which Becker identified as Jake, Russell and Billy, rushed to the German’s help. “I will never forget them. They saved my life,” Becker said of his three saviors.
Fortunately, the situation ended well and the convicted murderer who threatened Becker later actually apologized to the German. “He threw himself on the floor and hugged my legs. I picked him up and embraced him and told him I had great respect for him,” Becker revealed.
Meanwhile, Becker is now a free man but he is also a changed man. In his tell-all interview, Becker admitted that being in jail was a humbling-experience and that it was the loneliest time of his life.
