Mayakoba, Scottie Scheffler for the number 1

Not even time to enjoy the number 1 in the world, which Rory McIlroy, from afar, has to watch carefully over his shoulder. At the World Wide Technology Championship in Mayakoba, in fact, there is the return of Scottie Scheffler.

The American, with a victory or a lonely second place, could regain the leadership of the world ranking, the OWGR. Of course, one fact hinders him: he has never exactly been the greatest admirer of these places.

But there are so many themes that overlook the par 71 of the Camaleon Golf Club, located in Playa del Carmen.

Among these, of course, Viktor Hovland’s chance to score a remarkable three of a kind. Last year, however, he also set the course record, lapping in the four days in -23 (261 strokes). It is only natural that he is considered the first favorite, with Scheffler instead testing his new putter further.

Francesco Molinari, who returns to the other side of the ocean after his passage from the European parts, between the Open Championship and the Open d’Italia, also meets again. In particular, from St. Andrews onwards he never dropped below 34th position.

His new form is all to be discovered, since the last tournament was the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which ended on 2 October, that is just a month ago. Scottie Scheffler (Ridgewood, June 21, 1996) is an American golfer.

He was born in the town of Ridgewood, in the state of New Jersey, on June 21, 1996 into a wealthy family, the son of Scott and Diane Scheffler. He became passionate about the world of golf as a child, playing at the city’s Highland Park.

At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Dallas. He made his professional debut in 2019. With the victory of the first major in career in April 2022, the Masters tournament achieves its fourth success in its first six starts: the time frame between the four wins, of 57 days, is the shortest in the history of the PGA Tour.

He also becomes the fifth golfer to win the aforementioned No. 1 tournament in the world rankings, after Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001 and 02) and Dustin Johnson (2020).
