The 2019 Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer was one of the most thrilling and dramatic match of tenis history. On 14 July 2019, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic took the lawns on the All England Club, rewriting the history of the world most famous fortnight.

The last act of the 133rd edition of the Championships gave great emotions and saw the Swiss legend close to the victory of the twenty-first Grand Slam. In the fifth and decisive set, on a score of 8-7, Federer had two match points available on his serve.

On the other side of the net, however, was Djokovic, the man capable of performing some of the most incredible feats on a tennis court. The Serbian champion was able to cancel the two match points and win the match at the tie-break.

Federer later confessed years later: “On the court and during the award ceremony I held back with difficulty, once in the locker room a few tears fell, I collapsed.”

Now Djokovic revealed a curious background recalling the Wimbledon 2019 final.

He told: “On the second match point, I moved early thinking of a cross serve. In the end, though, Roger went for the T and I immediately thought the game was over. My answer might not have crossed the net. I was a bit lucky at that moment, it’s fair to admit.”

The Belgrade will compete this week at the Masters 1000 in Paris-Bercy and will challenge Maxime Cressy on his debut. The American defeated Diego Schwartzman in two sets expressing a very high level of play. Djokovic, thanks to the title won in Astana by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final, has taken off the pass for the ATP Finals and will be one of the protagonists in Turin.

In addition to the Serbian, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev and Tsitsipas himself also qualified. Felix Auger-Aliassime, on the other hand, is now one step away from the Tournament of Masters. The Canadian has won three tournaments in a row and seems to have finally achieved the continuity that has always prevented him from making a difference in the important moments of the games.
