Muay Thai legend John Wayne Parr offered his congratulations to Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom Kade Ruotolo for his world title victory after ONE on Prime Video 3. ‘The Gunslinger’ crossed paths with the Ruotolo brothers during event week in Malaysia and it seems that they made quite the impression on the Australian slugger.
Parr was in Kuala Lumpur to corner for his Aussie pupil, Reece McLaren, at ONE 162, mere hours before watching Ruotolo win the inaugural ONE lightweight submission grappling world title.
Following Kade Ruotolo’s scintillating finish over Uali Kurzhev on Friday, October 21, ‘The Gunslinger’ took a selfie with the newly crowned world champion holding the 26-pound belt. He later tagged Kade on his Instagram page with the following caption:
“Massive congratulations to @kaderuotolo on becoming the @onechampionship world champ in submission grappling today. Been a great week hanging in the hotel together and happy to see you win the belt 😊.”
Kade later responded in the comments section below with the words:
“Thanks sm John! Your energy and stoke is so awesome to be around 🙏 true legend.”
Friday night marked Kade Ruotolo’s second history-making win of the year. The 19-year-old earned back-to-back world titles within a month of each other.
He beat four of the world’s best grapplers to earn an ADCC world championship, becoming the youngest champion in the event’s history. Kade’s journey doesn’t end here, as he plans to fight again before the end of the year.
John Wayne Parr’s Boonchu Gym pupil Reece Mclaren scores massive victory at ONE 162
John Wayne Parr’s pupil Reece ‘Lightning’ McLaren made a spectacular impression this past Friday at ONE 162. Parr had been working with the 31-year-old flyweights over the last few months to polish his standup and improve his overall skillset.
It looks like all the hard work is paying off, with McLaren earning his second TKO victory under ‘The Gunslinger’s’ tutelage. He outstruck his opponent, Windson Ramos, throughout their match, and at some point caused a swelling on the Brazilian’s foot. Before the start of the third round, the Brazilian’s corner deemed it necessary to throw in the towel as Ramos could barely put weight on his injured foot.
John Wayne Parr had previously commented on McLaren’s improvement in the striking department with ONE Championship, but no one could have predicted the full extent of his power to be so significant in such a short amount of time.
Credit to his gym and his coach, McLaren may well be on his way to world title contention if he continues this current hot streak.
