Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have made a lot of people passionate about tennis with their incredible challenges. A total of 40 official matches were played by the Swiss against the Spaniard from Manacor: everyone had something special and naturally gave a lot to the winner.
It was certainly one of the most exciting and exciting rivalries in the history of world sport. Two great friends who have always fought on any court when they found themselves against each other, to prove that they are the best.
Especially before the explosion of Novak Djokovic’s talent, the two were undoubtedly the best (even in the ATP world rankings) and often played an important title.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal: story of a sincere friendship and rivalry
It was the Iberian who won more matches in history than the Swiss Maestro, who in direct clashes sometimes had to give way to the Majorcan several times.
24-16 the total balance between the two. A gap that narrows if we only consider the matches valid as finals (14-10 always in favor of Spaniard). Rafa also made the difference in Grand Slam matches: a 3-1 lead at the Australian Open, losing the final in 2017.
6-0 at the Roland Garros, with Nadal always beating his main rivals in his second home. At Wimbledon instead Federer ahead for 3-1 against the rival: the two, incredibly, never faced each other at the US Open. As for the ATP Finals, the Swiss dominate with the previous ones that will remain stable at 5-1.
The two will remain in history also for what they did as a couple, precisely in the history of the match played together in the Laver Cup (the last competition that the 41-year-old will play). In the spring of 2007, however, Federer and Nadal played something beyond all logic: the battle of the surfaces that we will hardly see again in the coming years and decades.
It was a match-exhibition on a tennis court divided into two parts, one in clay and the other in grass. A great show that Rafa managed to win after about 2 hours and 30 minutes of fighting.
