Jenson Brooksby said he definitely noticed Borna Coric getting frustrated during the match and added that was his chance to try to break down the opponent. On Thursday, Brooksby defeated Coric 6-4 7-6 (10) 6-1 in the US Open second round.

Brooksby’s got under Coric’s skin as the Croatian made it very clear how he felt about the American’s actions. “Every point, literally. It’s annoying me a lot. I make the so easy mistake and he goes ‘Come on!’ I understand, I like the fight, I respect it, but it’s a bit too much.

Every f—— point,” Coric was heard telling the chair umpire.

Brooksby: It’s good to see your opponent frustrated

“I noticed that definitely,” Brooksby said, per TennisBuzz. “It gives you confidence to be able to try and handle those moments better than the other opponents.

Just things that I can focus on in my control. That’s definitely a time if the opponent is frustrated, I can see this is the time to stay focused and stay on him and try to break him down. Whoever that is or whatever situation that is, it’s always a good thing to see.

Yeah, the conditions, it was a little windy today, for sure. It wasn’t the best. But from my end, I thought I handled it well.” After losing the first set, Coric had two consecutive set points on Brooksby’s serve in the 12th game of the second set, but didn’t convert.

Then in the tie-break, Coric earned five set more points. After saving seven set points, Brooksby clinched his first set point and realized it to go up by two sets. There was no coming back for Coric after that as Brooksby then cruised past the third set to complete a three-set win.

Brooksby now has an extremely tough third round meeting. Next up for is going to be third-seeded Carlos Alcaraz, who is considered among favorites for the title.
