Actress and model Charlbi Dean died at 32 year-old in New York

Charlbi Dean, the South African actress and model featured in the film Palme d’Or at Cannes 2022 Triangle of Sadness, died at 32. The girl died in a New York hospital, although the cause of her death is unknown. she for now she is referred to as a death which occurred from a sudden illness.

Charlbi was born in 1990 in Cape Town. She made her modeling debut at age six and film debut at ten in the comedy Spud with John Cleese and Troye Sivan. She then appeared in the films’ Death Race 3: Inferno (2013), Blood in the Water (2016), Don’t Sleep (2017) and Porthole (2018).

As a model she had worked for Guess, Benetton and Ralph Lauren campaigns. In 2008, she survived a serious car accident that left her with broken bones and a pneumothorax. In Triangle of Sadness, the young actress had the role of model Yaya, one of the guests for a cruise aboard a superyacht under the command of an irreducible Marxist who ends up catastrophically with the survivors abandoned on a desert island.

Before starring with Harris Dickinson and Woody Harrelson in Ruben Östlund’s ferocious satire of capitalism, due out October 7, Charlbi had made a name for herself for the part of Syonide, a recurring character in the DC comic series.

Comics Black Lightning on CW. Ruben Ostlund, the Swedish director of the Cannes Palme d’Or winner Triangle of Sadness, posted a touching tribute to the actress and model. On Instagram he wrote: “Charlbi’s sudden disappearance is a shock and a tragedy.

It is an honor to have known and worked with her. Charlbi had a care and sensitivity that lifted her colleagues and the entire crew. The thought that he will no longer be by our side in the future makes me very sad. In this difficult time, my thoughts go out to his loved ones, his family and his boyfriend Luke.”

Triangle of Sadness, which sees Dean in a cast that also includes Harris Dickinson and Woody Harrelson, is in official selection at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival (September 8-18) and has been selected for the New York Film Festival (September 30-16 October). Acquired by Neon after Cannes, the film will be released in US theaters on 7 October.
