American tennis legend Pam Shriver described Serena and Venus Williams’ Grand Slam finals record as “amazing” but added the Williams sisters are not the greatest of all time in the doubles competition. Together, the Williams sisters have won 14 Grand Slam titles.
What makes their record absolutely impressive is the fact that they have never lost a Grand Slam doubles final. “@serenawilliams and @Venuseswilliams are 14-0 in Grand Slam doubles finals together, which is the greatest unbeaten record in Grand Slam finals in tennis history across all disciplines (men’s or women’s singles or doubles, or mixed doubles),” TENNIS magazine tweeted.

Together with Martina Navratilova, Shriver won 20 Grand Slam doubles titles. Overall, Shriver and Navratilova won 74 doubles titles. Between April 1983 and July 1985, Shriver and Navratilova went 109 matches without a loss.

Shriver on Serena Williams’ US Open draw
In the US Open first round, Williams drew 80th-ranked Danka Kovinic.
Kovinic has been playing poorly over the last few months as she hasn’t won a match since the French Open. Kovinic has lost her last five matches and Shriver feels Williams has a good chance to make it past her opening round match at Flushing Meadows.
“Serena Williams first round opponent Kovinic has won 4 games in her last 4 sets played. Kovinic much better on clay, where at Roland Garros pushed Iga in 3rd round loss. Serena has won more matches since Wimbledon than Kovinic.
This is as good a first round as Serena could get,” Shriver tweeted. .If Williams makes it past Kovinic, next up for her could be second-ranked Anett Kontaveit. But Kontaveit hasn’t been impressive over the last few months and Williams could definitely have her chances. Williams is retiring after the US Open.
