John McEnroe sentences Roger Federer: "80% of condition is not enough"

John McEnroe has taken a closer look at Roger Federer‘s prospects, now that Swiss Maestro’s come back is near, with the Laver Cup in September. McEnroe explained: “Whenever a tournament starts and Roger Federer is not there, he misses him a lot.

Roger is the most elegant player I have ever seen on a tennis court. As a lover of the sport, I don’t see the ‘now that you are back in. If he wants to get back in the game, he has every right to do so and no one can challenge his decision.

However, an 80% Roger would not be enough to get competitive again at his age. We found out with Andy Murray, who didn’t get results worthy of his name.” Fernando Gonzalez also commented on the Maestro’s return: “Federer knows his body very well and is surrounded by the right people.

It will be necessary to see how his physique will react between matches, that is the crucial aspect. I doubt he can win another Grand Slam, but in best-of-three-set tournaments he can still have a say about him.”

Roger is ready for the come back

Roger Federer is expected to return to the Laver Cup, the rich exhibition he founded, which will take place at the O2 Arena in London from 23 to 25 September.

The former world number 1 will close his very short season at the ATP in Basel, back on the calendar after the last two editions had been canceled due to the pandemic. The Swiss phenomenon has not set foot on the pitch since Wimbledon 2021, which was his last tournament before another operation on his right knee.

The 40-year-old from Basel played just 13 official matches last year, managing to take nine wins to four defeats. The King was overtaken by Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the all-time Grand Slam standings, with the Serbian also breaking the record for weeks at the top of the ATP rankings. Unless sensational and unlikely twists, the Maestro will not be able to win other majors in the future.
