Gregorio De Leo won the Rome Alps Open with a total of 196 strokes (64 68 64, -20), the fifth event of the Italian Pro Tour 2022 which took place on the Parco de ‘Medici Golf Club course (par 72). Thanks to the success in this tournament, also included in the Alps Tour calendar, the 22-year-old from Biella has obtained the third title of the season on the circuit, thus winning the “card” to play next year on the Challenge Tour.

Second after the first 18 holes and third at the end of the second round, thanks to a last lap in 64 (-8) shots with seven birdies, an eagle and a bogey, De Leo went to take first place, which allowed him to cash a check for € 5,800 on a total prize pool of 40,000.

Another great test for the blue, the promise of Italian golf who turned professional last September at the Italian Open, who once again demonstrated his talent, reaffirming his leadership in the order of merit of the Alps Tour The Roma Alps Open thus joins the other two tournaments won by De Leo: the Memorial Giorgio Bordoni and the Alps de Las Castillas.

Second place for Stefano Mazzoli (67 69 63), shared with Irish Gary Hurley (70 63 66) with 199 (-17). A fundamental placement for the class born in 1996, back in the first five positions (4 / o) of the ‘money list’ of the circuit and in full swing to make the jump in the category two events from the end of the season (Castelconturbia Alps Open and Alps Tour Grand Final).

Gregorio De Leo, statements

“I am very happy – said De Leo – being able to win three races in 2022 on the same circuit is incredible and having done it in the first year as a professional makes me proud. The Challenge Tour is guaranteed, now I will evaluate what to do: I will certainly play some races already.

to gain experience, then if they go well we will try at the end of the year to also play for the place to go on the DP World Tour. It will be a new beginning and it will be all to see. This victory I dedicate primarily to my coach, because we are making a fantastic journey and without him I would never have arrived here ”
