German tennis star Alexander Zverev has signed up to play Stockholm later this year, per Michal Samulski. Zverev, 25, is set to make his third appearance on the indoor-hard courts of Stockholm.

Zverev made his Stockholm debut in 2015, when he reached the round-of-16, before losing to Tomas Berdych. The following year, Zverev enjoyed a better run in Stockholm as he reached the semifinal.

In his first Stockholm semifinal, Zverev suffered a three-set defeat versus Jack Sock. Six years later, Zverev is set to return to Stockholm. Zverev will certainly be one of the biggest names in Stockholm this year and a top favorite for the title.

Zverev recovering from a surgery

Zverev is set to miss an extended time following an unfortunate ankle injury. In his French Open semifinal match versus Rafael Nadal, Zverev badly rolled his ankle and started crying in pain.

The match was over from that moment as Zverev was forced to retire and undergo an ankle surgery a couple of days later. “We all have our own journey in life. This is part of mine. Next week I’ll reach a career high ranking of number 2 in the world, but this morning I had to undergo surgery.

After further examination in Germany, we received confirmation that all three of the lateral ligaments in my right ankle were torn. To return to competition as quickly as possible, to ensure all the ligaments heal properly, and to reclaim full stability in my ankle, surgery was the best choice.

My rehab starts now and I’ll do everything to come back stronger than ever! I am continuing to receive so many messages and would like to thank everyone once again for supporting me during such a difficult time,” Zverev announced a few days after the French Open. Zverev is set to miss Wimbledon but he is hoping to be ready to return to action at the US Open.
