Romanian tennis player Sorana Cirstea revealed Goran Ivanisevic was in the stands during her French Open first round match and she was grateful for the advice and tips she received from Novak Djokovic’s coach. Ivanisevic, a former Wimbledon champion, has been working with Djokovic since 2019.

Whatever Ivanisevic told Cirstea before her Roland Garros opener worked as the Romanian saw off Tatjana Maria 6-3 6-3. “Today I was very surprised to see him because I know he’s very busy with Novak. But he was very, very kind to be there,” Cirstea said, per Sportskeeda.

“Yeah, I was happy to see him there and he’s just been giving me a few tips and tricks from a Grand Slam champion, and as a coach of No. 1, and someone that has so much experience. I’m very grateful and very lucky to have the chance to spend that hour on court with him.”

Cirstea: Ivanisevic was really helpful

Cirstea asked Ivanisevic to give his thoughts on her game and the Croatian tennis legend spent an hour speaking about tennis with the Romanian. “So basically I just asked for his help and I was lucky enough to get an hour of his time.

So he did spend that hour with me on the court two days ago and I talked with him a little bit about what’s going through my head and just tennis talk easy. It was a very, very pleasant hour,” she said. Speaking with Ivanisevic and getting an opinion from a different perspective was something that Cirstea needed.

“But that was all it was, it was just an hour of fresh eyes and just a bit of tennis talk and a different perspective,” Cirstea added. Cirstea was on a four-match losing streak before beating Maria at the French Open. Cirstea, 32, achieved her best French Open result in 2009, when she reached the quarterfinal.
