Rising American star Cori Gauff noted that education is very important in the Gauff family and she he is proud to graduate from high school. Gauff is just 18 but she has been on the WTA Tour for around three years now but that didn’t stop her from getting a high school diploma.

This past weekend, Gauff celebrated her graduation from Florida Virtual Flex. “For me, education and my family is very important. Both my parents graduated college and my grandmothers are both teachers and I have a whole family really full of teachers.

Finishing high school was important to me. I know on tour a lot of players don’t always do that because you have tennis, but for me, tennis is what I do, but there are other interests that I have outside of tennis and definitely having knowledge on that can help me indulge in them more,” Gauff said, per Tennis Up To Date.

Gauff makes a winning start at the French Open

On Sunday, Gauff ousted Rebecca Marino 7-5 6-0 to progress into the French Open second round. Gauff admitted that combining school work with tennis duties wasn’t easy but she was grateful that people from Florida Virtual Flex were extremely understanding of her situation.

“For me personally I get more mentally exhausted than physically [at Slams]. Like physically, I can play 20 more matches. Mentally, I’m barely grinding through this. So I’m very thankful for them because that could have been a lot more stressful if they weren’t as understanding, which they probably could have been more because there was a lot of weeks I went without submitting work.

But I got it done,” Gauff said. Gauff has said several times this year that her goal is to make a strong Grand Slam run in the near future. Last year, Gauff reached her first quarterfinal at the French Open. Gauff plays Alison Van Uytvanck in the French Open second round.
