This Sunday afternoon Tottenham received Newcastle in London. The Spurs had recovered well after their defeat against Manchester United by chaining two successes against Brighton and West Ham while the Magpies, after three victories, had suffered two 1-0 defeats against Chelsea and Everton. In the standings, Tottenham is still in the race for the Champions League but victory was essential this weekend. With the three points, the Spurs could pass 4th and thus put pressure on Arsenal. In the first leg, Tottenham won 3-2 on Newcastle’s lawn.

While Antonio Conte’s players dominated the proceedings, it was those of Eddie Howe who opened the scoring with a goal from Fabian Schaer on a free kick (39th). However, the Spurs responded quickly thanks to a header from Ben Davies (43rd). Returning from the locker room, the Londoners took the advantage with a headed goal from Matt Doherty on a fine cross from Harry Kane (48th). A few minutes later, on an action from the Kane-Son-Kulusevski trio, the South Korean scored his team’s third goal (54th). Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn sealed the victory for Spurs by each scoring a goal (63rd and 84th). With this defeat Newcastle remain 15th with 9 points ahead of the red zone while Tottenham will offer themselves an intense end to the season with in particular the late match against Arsenal, which should be scheduled for May.
