OM win against OGC Nice and regain second place –

A few hours after the defeat of Paris Saint-Germain on the lawn of AS Monaco (0-3), the 29th day offered us another enticing shock this Sunday evening at the end. At the Orange Vélodrome, Olympique de Marseille received OGC Nice for a heated match. Third with 50 points, the Phocaeans had to win to regain their place of runner-up, occupied by Stade Rennais since this afternoon. Opposite, the Aiglons, fourth with the same number of units, wanted to create a surprise on Marseille soil to overtake their evening opponent and therefore also the SRFC. It was also for OM to take revenge after their elimination against OGCN in the Coupe de France in early February (1-4), not to mention the tense match in the first leg and the incidents at the Allianz Riviera. On the Marseille side, Jorge Sampaoli, represented by his deputy Jorge Desio because of his suspension, aligned on paper a 4-1-4-1 with Gueye in the left-back position. Christophe Galtier started with a 4-4-2 with the Delort-Gouiri duo in front. Despite a very good atmosphere and Olympians who were players from the start, the match had difficulty getting started, the first opportunity only arriving in the 24th minute. Because on an excellent service from Bard, Stengs missed the frame in a very good position.

The Marseille response came quickly with this helmet shot from Saliba released by Benitez (27th), but the audience at the Orange Vélodrome clearly had difficulty vibrating in this first act. It was finally on a long shot from Payet that the crowd rose, but the frame slipped away for the Reunionese (39th). Nevertheless, the score was changing just before the break. Mowed down by Todibo, Ünder obtained a penalty that Milik transformed perfectly (45th + 4, 1-0). A goal scored at the best of times for OM who however returned from the locker room with less desire. Because as soon as the recovery, Delort equalized for Nice with a nice shot but an offside saved the Marseille club (48th). Jorge Sampaoli’s team tried to score this precious second goal but Benitez took out Gueye’s shot while Milik’s small dive, offside, was taken away by Todibo on his line (55th). Behind, the Pau Lopez show started with a stop in front of Stengs (61st) and another in front of Delort (71st). The former Montpellier player showed up in this second act but did not score on another opportunity (77th). The second period was therefore rather complicated for the Phocaeans but they did not give up to keep the result. Better, Bakambu doubled the lead on a superb cross from Gerson (90th, 2-0). Lemina’s goal in added time ultimately changed nothing (90th + 2, 2-1). OM won against OGC Nice to move up to second in the standings. Les Aiglons remained fourth, now three points behind their opponent in the evening and two behind Rennes.
