Media concerns are piling up for Roman Abramovich. The current owner of Chelsea, who is still looking to sell the London club, has been targeted by a new investigation around his fortune, while he remains targeted by the British government because of an alleged link with Vladimir Putin, the Russian president triggering the invasion of Ukraine.

The BBC has just published a long investigation on Tuesday and claims, after cross-checking police information from various sources, to have found new evidence on the corruption deals that made Roman Abramovich’s fortune. Among the accusations, there is question of a rigged auction for the takeover of an oil company in 1995, the robbery of a train filled with gasoline in 1992 or the kidnapping of a Chinese competitor in the takeover of another company in 2002. Lawyers for the Russian oligarch told the BBC that the accusation of kidnapping “is absolutely unfounded and that he has no knowledge of such an incident”.
