Manchester United still held in check by Southampton, Ronaldo remains silent –

Manchester United disappoints again, CR7 too. This Saturday, opening the 25th day of the Premier League, the Red Devils could not do better than a deserved draw against Southampton (1-1) at Old Trafford after an open match. We didn’t have to wait very long to see the first chances in this game. Like a huge comeback from Romain Perraud to prevent Cristiano Ronaldo, holder after starting on the bench at Burnley and now silent for 5 league games (6 in all competitions), from opening the scoring (7th). A first hot situation which had the merit of starting the match. Southampton then MU got a huge opportunity each to put the ball in the back of the net, in vain (9th). The light finally came from Jadon Sancho, author of his 2nd goal of the season on an offering from Marcus Rashford, himself found by a marvelous opening signed Bruno Fernandes (1-0, 22nd).

If David De Gea did the job before the break (41st, 43rd) and Paul Pogba was denied a goal for an offside position by CR7 (45th + 2), the Saints equalized as soon as the locker room thanks to Che Adams (1-1, 48th). The two goalkeepers then fought a nice duel from a distance in the heart of a second period still undecided, when Broja did not miss the boat (68th) or a feverish Ronaldo was not offside (71st). The whole giving birth to a score of parity between the two teams, after a final parade by Forster on his line in front of Maguire (90th + 3). Man United remain in the tough with only 3 points taken in the last 5 Premier League games. Ralf Rangnick’s team timidly regained 5th place, one point ahead of Arsenal (6th), who had two games less. The era of 9-0 conceded on this same lawn last year seems far away for Southampton, which continues well after bringing down Tottenham on Wednesday.
