Minister, NOC condole with weightlifting president’s family — Sport — –

Sports Minister, Sunday Dare and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) have condoled with the family of the late president of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Mr. Yahaya Mohammed, who died on Saturday in Kano.

Dare noted that the sterling leadership provided by Mohammed in his lifetime would be greatly missed by the weightlifting federation and the Nigeria’s sporting industry, praying that God would repose of the soul of the late Mohammed and grant his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

In his reaction, NOC President, Habu Gumel described Mohammed’s demise as a monumental loss to Nigeria, adding, “Yahaya Mohammed will be remembered for his passion for the sport of weightlifting as well as his amiable character that easily endeared him to all of us.

“Not only that, but his outstanding feat and achievements at the 2019 12th African Games in Morocco also got him the accolade among his admirers the “Golden President.

“On behalf of the executive board and members of the NOC, we extend our heart-felt condolence to the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, his co-federation presidents, the government and people of Jigawa State and his immediate family on the irreparable loss. May God grant his soul eternal rest.”

Meanwhile, the NOC has commiserated with Mr. Samuel Ocheho, president of the Handball Federation of Nigeria on the death of Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Mohammed, a vibrant board member.

Ahmed Mohammed, who was the chairman of the Kaduna State Handball Association, died on Friday at 44 Military Hospital in Kaduna.
