10th Korean Ambassador’s Taekwondo Cup kicks off today |

The defending champion of the Korean Ambassador’s Taekwondo Cup, Ifeoluwa Ajayi, will stake his title at the 10th edition of championships, which begin today at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State.

The event organised by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation and supported by the Korean Embassy will see Ajayi and other eight national athletes, who took part in the just-concluded 12th African Games in Morocco, compete for laurels in the two-day tournament.

The famous athletes will have to be at their best to challenge other taekwondo gladiators across the states of the federation, who will try to impress in order to raise their national rankings.

Registered for the 16 kyeorugi and five poomsae events are national athletes that include Peter Itiku, Abdulfathi Sanusi, Arinola Abdullateef, Benjamin Okuomose Uzoamaka Otuadinma, and Josephine Esuku.

Other competitors for the championship are from Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, FCT, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Niger, Nasarawa, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, and Taraba states. And clubs such as the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Civil Defense, and Security Corps are to make up the170 athletes of 25 teams.

Prizes to be won include flat screens TV for the best male and female athletes, gifts equipment for medallists and vital national ranking points.

One of the highlights for the championship at the closing ceremony will be a performance by the International award-winning Kukkiwon Demonstration Team.
